Matthew 24:12 KJV "And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold."
Recently, a couple of fairly prominent Christian leaders have renounced their faith in Christ and walked away from Christianity. It is devastating to watch this happen, and it can shake our own faith to see people we have admired turn their back on God and walk away like a child who just found out Santa Claus is not real. But, God is real and their renouncement does not change who God is or what He is really about.
The word iniquity means, gross injustice. What better word could describe the condition of our world? To see the gross injustice all around us every day is disheartening and heavy to carry! We need to be aware of it, but it doesn't need to be our focus. Don't look at the billows and crashing waves look at the one who has mastered them and walks above them! Look to the real Jesus, not this "Jesus Christ Superstar" that we have created. The flashy Jesus that's like a genie in a bottle who is there to grant our every whim and wish. Look to the one who loved you enough to come to where you are and bring healing and holiness to rescue you from the abounding gross injustice crashing all around. The one who came, not so you can drive a Mercedes, but that you might have peace and life and have it more abundantly. The one who brought HOPE into a hopeless world, light in the darkness!
Please don't lose heart and faint in your mind! After the Israelites had been bitten by fiery serpents and many had died, their only hope was to look to the serpent of brass that the Lord told Moses to make and put on a pole that was set before them. There was no other remedy! We know that a serpent represents sin. The Bible says that Jesus became sin for us so that we could have his righteousness and live. As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness and those that looked to it lived, so Jesus was lifted up and those that look to Him will live! "Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith..." Forget those things that are behind, reach forth to those things that are before, and press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus! Don't give up!
